Gabe and Johnny - ADOPTED!

Gabe and Johnny are 9 year old Lab brothers that landed in the care of MLRR after their previous owner sold their house and could not take the bonded pair with her. You can tell them apart because Gabe is the one with the most grey on his muzzle. They have been outside dogs prior to coming into rescue and these boys DO NOT want to go back out!! They LOVE being house dogs and are content to lie on their comforter and sleep and clean each others ears and faces. They weigh between 90-100 pounds each. They are both very mild mannered, but Johnny will be the one to vocalize when he feels it is time to come back inside after a potty break! They also ride excellent in the car - when we get to where we are going they tend to jump out and then want to get back in the car for more of a ride! I think they just love the fact they now have air conditioning and a comfy bed to sleep on! They will do best as only dogs or with smaller, calm dogs. Johnny is a little overwhelmed by larger dogs, but both brothers are fine with cats and smaller dogs. These boys deserve to find a loving home for the remainder of their lives. They are wonderful dogs and will be a joy for anyone willing to give them a chance. Ideally, they will find a forever home in which they can stay together, but if needed they can be adopted into two separate families.

Hello. I was wondering if Gabe & Johnny are still available for adoption, or whether they have already found a new home? Also, when you mention that Johnny is a little overwhelmed by larger dogs, does he shy away from them, growl at them, etc.? Thank you.

Hi Steve!
I think it's more of a defensive/protective issue with him as they've only been around one smaller dog, but he'll growl at them. They're both wonderful with the two tiny dogs I have here and it's not that he can't be around bigger dogs, I just choose to avoid a stressful situation with him so keep my larger dogs away. He's around them(separated by baby gates), will be fine walked passed them, etc. but mine love to play and he's too old to want to play with them :) These boys are wonderful and just want to be loved and comfortable...they're very bonded with each other and to see them together just warms your heart!! Let me know if you'd like to talk to me more about them, and next Sunday they will be moving closer to Chicago if you'd like to meet them.

Hi Beth, thanks for the information on Gabe & Johnny. Are Gabe & Johnny in the Chicago area now? (I wasn't sure what you meant when you said that next Sunday they will be moving closer to Chicago). I live out in the western suburbs of Chicago, and I just recently completed my online application with Midwest Lab Rescue, so I'm waiting to hear back from them so they can set up an appointment to come out and see my apartment and I can get "approved" by them. I used to have 2 chocolate labs (they were sisters) and after they passed away I dogsat a yellow lab at my place for almost a year while their mother was overseas, so I'm definitely a lab lover. I'm hoping that the Midwest Lab Rescue ends up contacting me this week so I can get the home visit/approved. How long have Gabe & Johnny been with you? Have a lot of other people looked at them, or is it more difficult for them to get adopted because there are 2 dogs who want to stay together?

Hi Steve. You should be hearing from Marge soon about a home visit sometime this week. These two boys are currently at a foster home in Aledo, IL which is about 3 hours away. They are going to be moving closer on Sunday to a new foster home in Mt. Prospect. They were just in Aledo until a foster home opened up in the Chicago Suburbs that could foster them together. It is incredibly hard to place two dogs together so if you are at all interested in adopting two we encourage you to do so! These boys would be forever grateful to you. Thanks!

Hello again. I just wanted to let you know that I met with Marge yesterday for my in-home/apartment visit, and now am just waiting on my approval letter/email. Then I'll arrange to meet with Gabe & Johnny and see where things go from there. :) Steve

Hello again . . . I just received my approval letter/email this afternoon. Marge (the woman who conducted the in-home visit with me) said that I should let the foster parent/family know that I just got approved so that they can contact me to arrange for me to meet Gabe & Johnny. Just let me know what other information you need from me. Thank you! Steve

Hi Steve - If you haven't already been contacted to set up a meeting with Gabe & Johnny, can you give me the last name on the application? If you're uncomfortable posting your last name, you can email me direct at forummod@mlrr.org.

Hi Steve,
The boys cannot wait to meet you tomorrow. If you have any questions before please call or e-mail me at lindacirone@comcast.net. I took them to the doctor on Friday and can tell you what he said. They really want to be loved in a forever home. I cannot believe I have only had them a week, it feels so much longer because they adapted really well. Please feel free to contact me tomorrow if you have any questions before hand. Thanks. Linda :)
