Hi, my name is Bernie. My foster family calls me Bernard or Bernsie or even Bernstein. I am a lovable black Lab mix. I am 2 years old and weigh around 60 pounds. I live with a senior black Lab and 2 kids, ages 6 and 11. I love everybody I meet and love, love, love to be around people. (I think that a hand not holding something is a hand that should be petting me.) I love to nap right in the middle of the kitchen floor. That way, if anybody drops anything, I'm right there to help clean it up. I have had to take a lot of naps because I am recuperating from heartworm treatment. The doctor said that I had to lay low for 2 months. Do you have any idea how hard it is for a two year old Lab to lay low? No long walks, no fetch, no frisbee, no nothing. But now I'm cleared and ready to play! I am potty trained, stay off the furniture and don't need to be crated (pretty awesome right?). My foster dad thinks that I have a very strong prey drive because I can't help myself from darting after little critters that happen into my backyard (who can blame me, I'm a retriever after all, hello.) I'm not sure how I feel about cats, but based on critter chasin', it's probably best if I go to a home without a cat. I know the "sit" command and I'm working hard on "no" and "stay". I was a stray when the shelter picked me up. I also beat sarcoptic mange and made it out of the shelter. And in case you're worried, neither Heartworm or Mange can be transmitted to other pets or family members. Now that I'm all better, I'm just chillin' with my foster family (and brushing up on my manners) until the right family comes along. Wanna go for a walk? Then I'm your guy.
