I'm Rio as in the Rio Grande...you see I'm originally from the great state of Texas. I've had a rough start to life but my foster mom says that things are going to be heading in the right direction for me from now on. So you are probably wondering how I ended up in Chicagoland. A nice family found and rescued me in the Houston area but then moved up here to the 'burbs. I was not really in the best of shape and was only about 8 months old at that point. I was a small pup, was not getting enough food, and had a broken femur. They took me in and nursed me back to health. They knew they were not able to keep me as a forever pet but wanted to do the right thing and help me get a chance at a good life. I was with that family for about 8 months (I'm about 1.5 years old now). They had four young kids so ideally I'll find a forever family that has kids also. I'm housebroken and crate trained. I haven't had formal training but I will respond to basic commands. I'm not a big barker and get along with other dogs fine. In fact my foster brother Dirk is so fun! We love to wrestle and play tug. I'm a smaller lab at about 55 lbs but that doesn't mean that I can't keep up with him. I sleep through the night and don't give my foster parents any trouble. There is one thing I should tell you - I've been known to guard my crate - but that's because its the only familiar thing I've got right now. I need a family that's going to give me a chance to adjust to my new surroundings and take the time to show me around my new digs and introduce me properly to them. So what are you waiting for - come say hi...you won't be sorry!
