Midwest Labrador Retriever Rescue, MLRR, is an all volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to finding loving, permanent homes for unwanted or abandoned Labrador Retrievers. All rescued Labs are placed in foster homes where they can be evaluated for temperament and level of training before being adopted.

WOOF! My name is Liberty, but I don't really know that. My foster mom calls me Grizzly because I am a male Chocolate Lab with a gorgeous thick coat of fur and look just like a grizzly bear. I really my new name! Everyone tells me I am a very handsome boy. As you can imagine, looking like a grizzly bear means I'm a BIG dude - I currently weight 102 lbs. I did weight 125, but but still need to lose about 10 more pounds to get to my best weight. But, my joints have paid the price and now I need to have surgery on both of my hips. But once I do, I will be running and romping like I should be! I'm not really the sit-on-the-couch-and-snuggle type of guy, but I'm happy to follow you around the house, give you kisses and lay at your feet. I'll even roll on my back for you to give me belly rubs. I like to play with my tugger, and the occasional game of fetch. I'm a good sleeper at night and stay quietly (except for a little snoring!) on my bed on the floor until you get up in the morning. I'm fully housebroken and not destructive so I've got free reign of the house and don't need to be crated. However, I can be a little protective of my "space", and I'd prefer to have a corner that is just for me. I can get a little mouthy when I play, even though I know I shouldn't. I have nipped a few people during my foster care, but I'm working on that. I also LOVE to chase birds and squirrels, and even try to jump up into the tree to get them! So I would be best in a home with no young children (older teens should be OK) and I need an experienced dog owner who can give me a consistent routine, regular exercise and handle my BIG size.
